This study begins with a matrix paradigm modeled after Le Corbusier's
Maison Domino. The matrix is understood as a series of vertically-biased
surfaces which deform to the agents within it. These agents are the work of
the artist, Tara Donovan. The matrix parametrically bends and folds in order to
accommodate her large-scale artworks. The composition of the interior is derived from the intersections of the surfaces in the new, deformed matrix. The materialization of these intersections become the main organizational system within the building. Some provide spatial relationships to program or art and others provide structural support for the building. The spatial qualities of the new matrix are experienced as woven and pliable aggregates of material simulating Le Corbusier's Domino paradigm. These qualities are further enhanced by a luminescent glow provided by integrated lighting systems, producing a unique atmosphere for viewing the artworks. |
